Who Are We

Mirari comes from the Latin word for wonder — a reminder to move through the world with curiosity, awe, and play.

Our story started small. In January 2025, Monique moved home to Perth after seven years in New York City, looking for a good cup of matcha without the café price tag. What began as sourcing Japanese matcha for herself soon grew into pop-ups and collaborations with local creatives and community builders.

Then the story took an unexpected turn. Tracing our family roots back to Guangdong, China, we discovered something we hadn't expected — Chinese matcha. Local growers in the mountains of Tongren City, Guizhou province, had been producing their own naturally grown 磨茶 (mocha, matcha in Chinese) for generations. Curious about the deeper origins of 點茶 (diancha, whisked tea powder), we booked a trip to Guizhou to see it for ourselves.

That journey changed everything. Mirari is now a family-run matcha distributor based in Perth, Australia, dedicated to telling the story of Chinese matcha — following the same silk road routes our ancestors once traveled, bringing this jade-green treasure to the West in a modern way.
